You cannot see the hidden incidences of the disease
Calcium products for administration by mouth, such as a bolus, paste or gel, only reduce the part of the iceberg which is above the surface. Therefore, oral calcium products only control the part of visible hypocalcaemia which is expressed as clinical milk fever.
Hypocalcaemia significantly increases the risk of other production diseases:
- 9-times increase in the incidence of ketosis
- 6-times increase in calving difficulties because of calves being wrongly positioned in the uterus
- 4-times increase in the incidence of retained placenta'
- 4-times increase in the incidence of displacement of the abomasum
The many concealed hypocalcaemia related diseases do not disappear, and thus cannot be controlled using these calcium products. Learn more. |
