Denmark annually produces 105 million broilers and 55 million kg of eggs, which are laid by 3.5 million egg-laying hens.
The unique feature of Denmark’s production of broilers and eggs is the level of salmonella, which is almost zero. This was achieved by means of an intense nation-wide programme including prevention and control throughout the production chain from hatchery to poultry farmer and slaughterhouse. Denmark also has one of the lowest levels of antibiotic use in the world.
